Key takeaways
- Anthropic says Claude Duet is aimed at professionals and small business owners, while Meta markets Muse mainly to consumers and OpenAI's Dots spans enterprise and consumer, per CNBC.
- Duet costs nothing extra but draws on your Claude Pro ($20 per month) or Max ($100 per month) limits, so background checks could use them up sooner than chat alone.
- Duet is the only one of the three with published approval rules: it's designed to pause for your okay before it sends, pays, signs or deletes.
- Almost nothing has been reported on Dots' pricing, integrations, platforms or approvals, so a fair comparison isn't possible yet.
Anthropic announced Claude Duet on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. It’s a proactive agent that reaches out with items needing your attention instead of waiting for a prompt. The product is a research preview. Only US subscribers on Claude Pro or Max can try it, and they have to join a waitlist; invitations go out in waves.
Meta’s Muse and OpenAI’s Dots got to market first. If you run a small business or carry too much on your plate, the useful question is which of the three fits how you actually work. Coverage of Dots is thin, and I’ll flag every gap.
Who is each agent built for?
Anthropic says Duet is aimed at professionals and small business owners who have too much to track. Meta markets Muse mainly to consumers, while OpenAI’s Dots spans enterprise and consumer, according to CNBC. Duet is the only one pitched at work alone.
Anthropic’s own caveats, also reported by CNBC, fit that positioning. Because Duet is built for the workplace, Anthropic concedes it’s weaker at personal errands like booking tickets. The company also admits the product is early and can misjudge a thread or get the urgency of a message wrong.
Duet, Muse and Dots side by side
Duet is the best documented of the three, and the only one with stated approval rules. Muse has public usage numbers and a monetization plan. Dots has little beyond its audience. “Not reported” marks every gap, and for Dots especially you should check OpenAI directly.
| Claude Duet | Meta Muse | OpenAI Dots | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Target user | Professionals and small business owners (per Anthropic) | Mainly consumers | Enterprise and consumer |
| Price and limits | No extra charge; uses Pro ($20/month) or Max ($100/month) limits, per PCMag | Meta plans to keep it free for most users and take a share of commerce; power users would pay for advanced models or more tokens | Not reported |
| Availability | Research preview, US Pro and Max only, waitlist | Live; Meta says 10M+ users | Introduced at OpenAI’s developer conference; availability details not reported |
| Platforms | Reports differ: web or iOS app (MacRumors); iOS, Android and web (9to5Mac, PCMag) | Rose to the top of Apple’s App Store | Not reported |
| Connections | Gmail, Slack, LinkedIn, Gusto, Shopify, Stripe, Link, Shop Pay; own browser for other sites | Plaid connector for shopping | Not reported |
| Approvals | Designed to get your okay before it sends, pays, signs or deletes (per Anthropic) | Not reported | Not reported |
What each agent connects to
Duet reuses the memories, skills, connected apps and connectors from your Claude account, so setup is light. PCMag lists Gmail, Slack, LinkedIn, Gusto and Shopify. 9to5Mac adds Stripe, Link and Shop Pay. Muse’s named connection is Plaid, built for shopping.
In practice, Duet’s examples read like a small-business to-do list: check unpaid Stripe invoices and draft reminders, find missed Gmail and Slack messages and draft replies, post LinkedIn job listings, prepare and run Gusto payroll, set up a Shopify store. It sends a short brief each morning, then checks your apps every few hours. For sites with no connector, it uses its own browser on its own cloud-based computer, so it keeps working when you close the app.
Muse is about buying things. Over a quarter of engaged users who shop through it have an average purchase above $200, Meta says. CEO Mark Zuckerberg told investors that Plaid had never seen comparable activity from its connector on any other service (TechCrunch). Dots’ integrations haven’t been reported.
How do the approval rules compare?
Only Duet has published rules. Anthropic says it’s built to request your sign-off before it sends a message, spends money, signs a document or removes a file. Nothing comparable has been reported for Muse or Dots, so you can’t rank the three on approvals yet.
Anthropic adds that Duet doesn’t see your passwords or logins. It also says a dedicated classifier and a safety system prompt check each message for sensitive-data leaks. Per Anthropic, the system refuses to pass along the most sensitive category, such as credit card numbers and government ID, and sends health or personal finance data only if you explicitly told Duet to. All of that is Anthropic’s own account and hasn’t been independently tested. According to 9to5Mac, only you can mark a task as finished.
Muse’s security problems are separate and don’t involve Duet. Security firm Claroc reported that Muse’s conversation share links can be found through passive DNS searches, because the title sits in the subdomain. It enumerated 6,800 links and found sensitive content in a few hundred it opened, including a loan application, internal financial reports and a bank fraud alert. Meta has paused sharing while it reviews the report. Earlier, researcher Patrick Wardle found a zero-day that let another app on the same device take over a Muse account. Meta downplayed it because exploitation required an already-compromised device.
The lesson applies to any agent: the accounts you connect are your real exposure. If Gmail, Stripe or Gusto sits behind only a password, a hardware security key such as the YubiKey 5 NFC is a sensible fix.
Picking one if you run a small business
If your day lives in Gmail, Slack, Stripe and payroll, Duet is the one built and documented for that, and it costs nothing beyond the Pro or Max plan you may already have. If you mostly want help shopping, Muse is the consumer pick. For Dots, too little is reported to recommend it either way.
Muse’s momentum is real but self-reported. Meta says more than 10 million users, with about 25% of people who set it up using it daily. Sensor Tower’s estimates match the user count. CNBC says the figure covers the US and Canada, while TechCrunch gives no region.
Duet’s price tag needs a second look. Background work and background checks count against your existing plan limits, so you may hit them sooner than with chat alone. I’d join the waitlist if you already pay for Pro or Max. I wouldn’t upgrade to the $100 Max plan for Duet until people report how fast those checks eat into limits. If your company is on Team or Enterprise, you’re out for now: 9to5Mac reports Duet isn’t available there, and Anthropic plans to expand later.
Open questions on limits, platforms and Dots
- Timing: Anthropic hasn’t given dates for leaving preview or reaching Team, Enterprise or non-US users.
- Limits: How much Pro or Max usage background checks consume is not yet reported, and so is whether a separate paid tier follows.
- Platforms: Outlets disagree on whether there’s an Android app at launch, so check Anthropic’s page.
- Safety: Independent testing of Duet’s classifier and approval prompts hasn’t been published.
- Dots: Its pricing, usage model, integrations and approval rules haven’t been reported.
- Waitlist: Its length and the size of the first wave are unknown. Whether Meta restores Muse sharing, and with what changes, is also open.
