Key takeaways

  • In the US, CBS games like Chiefs-Chargers streamed on Paramount+, which costs $8.99 a month or $89.99 a year according to TechRadar.
  • UK fans had two paid routes: Sky Sports from £35 a month, or NFL Game Pass on DAZN at £18.99 a month on an annual commitment, with a £89 pass covering the remainder of the season.
  • Canadians paid from CA$24.99 a month on either DAZN or TSN+, while Australians could watch free on 7Mate and 7Plus.
  • The prices come from one promotional pre-game guide and can change, so check each service before you sign up.

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 18, and how you watched depended on where you live. In the US it was CBS and Paramount+. In Australia it was free. In the UK and Canada you needed a paid sports package or a DAZN subscription.

TechRadar’s pre-game guide listed the options and prices for each country. This piece puts those numbers side by side so you can pick the cheapest route.

What does it cost to stream NFL games in the US?

For the Chiefs-Chargers game, the cheapest route was Paramount+ at $8.99 a month or $89.99 a year, according to TechRadar. CBS carried the game, and Paramount+ streamed it alongside the broadcast. Annual billing suits anyone planning to keep the service all season.

TechRadar also pointed to a Walmart Plus trial, 30 days for $1, as a way into Paramount+. That’s an offer, not a standing price, so check the terms before counting on it.

If you’d rather have live TV, the guide names Fubo Sports + News, DirecTV Stream, Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV as services that carry CBS. It doesn’t give their prices, and I’m not going to guess. Pull up each service’s current price page before you compare them with Paramount+.

One caution. This was a CBS game. Other Sunday games land on other networks, and which service carries which game isn’t covered in the guide.

UK: Sky Sports or NFL Game Pass on DAZN

UK viewers could watch on Sky Sports Football or on NFL Game Pass on DAZN. Sky Sports starts at £35 a month, or £22 a month for existing Sky customers. Game Pass costs £18.99 a month on an annual commitment, or a £89 pass covering what’s left of the season, per TechRadar.

Kickoff was 9:25pm BST, so this was a late-evening watch rather than a middle-of-the-night one.

Game Pass looks like the better deal for anyone not already on Sky. If you only want this season, I’d start with the £89 option. Existing Sky customers at £22 a month pay a bit more than the Game Pass monthly rate, though that rate requires an annual commitment.

Canada, Australia and New Zealand

Canadian viewers had DAZN, TSN1 and TSN3. TechRadar lists DAZN from CA$24.99 a month and TSN+ from CA$24.99 a month or CA$249.99 a year. The monthly price is identical, so the choice comes down to which package carries the games you want. The guide doesn’t say whether the two overlap fully.

Australia is the easy case. The game aired on free-to-air 7Mate and on the 7Plus streaming app, with kickoff at 7:25am AEDT on Monday, Oct. 19. New Zealand had TVNZ Duke and TVNZ Plus. TechRadar groups TVNZ Plus with the free regional streams, though it doesn’t spell out the price.

For comparison, the US kickoff was 3:25pm CT, 4:25pm ET and 1:25pm PT.

Picking the cheapest route for your situation

The cheapest way depends on your country and how many games you want. In the US, Paramount+ is the low-cost entry for CBS games. In the UK, Game Pass’s rest-of-season price beats Sky for non-subscribers. In Canada, the two services cost the same per month. In Australia, it’s free.

If you’re a US cord-cutter, check which network carries the games you care about before paying for a year. A $1 trial or a month-to-month plan costs little if you only want a few games. The annual plan only pays off if you’ll use it past the 10-month mark, since $89.99 is roughly ten months at $8.99.

Hardware matters too. If your TV is too old to run these apps, a streaming stick such as the Roku Streaming Stick is a cheap fix. Confirm that it supports the specific app you plan to use before you buy.

For households that split viewing between a TV and a phone, an annual plan pays off more easily. For a single game, a month-to-month plan is easier to justify.

A word on VPNs

TechRadar recommends IPVanish for watching free regional streams such as 7Plus and TVNZ Plus from abroad. It lists a promo of $2.49 a month, described as up to 83% off. The guide includes a legal-use disclaimer, and the VPN links are affiliate content.

Treat that price as marketing. It may change, and a VPN adds a recurring cost on top of the free stream it unlocks. Check the terms of the streaming service you’re trying to reach, because they may restrict viewing outside the home country. The guide doesn’t tell you whether those streams carry English commentary or hold up under heavy traffic.

If you live in Australia or New Zealand, you don’t need any of this. If you’re abroad, a paid option like NFL Game Pass on DAZN may be more predictable than a workaround.

What the guide doesn’t tell you

The big gap is live-TV pricing. TechRadar lists several live-TV services that carry CBS but gives no cost for any of them, so a true US comparison isn’t possible from this guide alone.

The Chiefs’ next game is a Sunday-night road game at Lumen Field against the Seattle Seahawks. The broadcaster for that game hasn’t been reported, so don’t assume Paramount+ covers it. Nor does the guide say whether Sky Sports and Game Pass carry every game or only this one.

The pricing itself is a snapshot. TechRadar’s guide is a pre-game piece, and its prices and VPN discounts are promotional and can change. Verify them on each provider’s site before you buy.
